“Blood!” “Fire!” The cries of St. Catherine of Siena’s heart can be sensed even as we read her writings now. Her special charism is bringing us into contact with the living mystery of Jesus Christ. In this course, her Dialogue will be our main text but we will also draw on her letters and prayers. We will ponder the foundation of her spiritual life in God’s superabundance and our poverty, how she uses poetic discourse to convey the truth of God’s mystery, the role of knowing and loving, contemplation and visits from the Lord, stages of development, the two wings of love of God and of neighbor, the harmony of contemplation and action, and the overflow of zeal for the salvation of souls. St. Catherine can help us too to be consumed with the love of God, a love that radiates light.
