SSF276 – Discernment of Visions and Revelations in the Interior Life

This timely and important course will assist you in discerning private revelations, from major apparitions such as Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe, Divine Mercy, and the Sacred Heart to lesser private revelations and other mystical phenomena that may occur in prayer.  Soundly rooted in Scripture, the Magisterium of the Church, and taking St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Thomas Aquinas as our guides, we will thoroughly analyze and examine all manner of mystical phenomena that fall under the category of private revelations. We will explore the following questions and many more!

• What exactly is private revelation and how is it related to public revelation?
• How does private revelation relate to prophecy and the charismatic gifts?
• How does the Church discern private revelations?
• What are some mystical phenomena encountered in various stages of the interior life that would fall under the category of private revelation?
• What should be our attitude towards private revelations received in prayer?
• What is the role of the spiritual director in discerning these experiences?
