SSF234 – The Psychology of St. John of the Cross: Lovingly Moved into Our Right Minds
Dates: TBD
In the first volume of his great work of mystical theology, The Ascent of Mount Carmel, St. John of the Cross shows us connections between the psychology of his day and the necessary spiritual disciplines for a deep “psychotherapy” (literally, “the cure of the soul”) during the “Active Nights of Sense and Spirit.” In this class, we will explore his second volume, namely The Dark Night, for yet-deeper insights from St. John on the ways in which God then draws us into the “Passive Nights of Sense and Spirit,” and prepares our wounded souls for full loving union with Him. We will explore St. John’s psychology and spirituality in conjunction with insights from modern studies of attachment, trauma, and healing.
