Dates: TBD
This course studies the life and thought of a Church Father and Doctor of the Church, Saint Augustine of Hippo (354–430 A.D.). The course accompanies Saint Augustine on his monumental spiritual odyssey, contextualizing his theology and spirituality by examining major historical issues pertinent to his biographical setting, including multiple heresies and the fall of the Roman Empire in the West.
Alongside this historical approach, the class systematically considers major theological themes in Augustine’s thought, including his treatment of key issues such as the Trinity, Christology, political theology, evil, grace, free will, original sin, anthropology, and eschatology.
