Dr. Benedict Nguyen

Benedict Nguyen is the Chancellor of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, where he also serves as the Canonical Counsel & Theological Advisor, as well as Promoter of Justice in the Diocesan Tribunal.  As a canon lawyer and licensed attorney, he has held numerous positions in parish, diocesan, and academic work with institutions such as the Diocese of La Crosse; the Diocese of Venice in Florida; the Liturgical Institute at Mundelein Seminary; Providence Academy, Wisconsin; and Ave Maria University.  He is a national lecturer and canonical legal consultant for various dioceses, religious institutions, apostolates, schools, and non-profit organizations throughout the United States.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liturgical Musicology at the University of Kansas, a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas, a Pontifical Licentiate degree in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America and a Juris Doctorate degree from the Hamline University School of Law.  He is currently completing a doctoral degree in Scripture from the Nashotah House Theological Seminary.  He has published articles in a variety of national and diocesan Catholic publications.  In 2015, he co-authored a work entitled “Pastoral Care of Patients with Ebola Virus Disease:  A Medical and Canonical Opinion,” which appeared in the Catholic Medical Association journal the Linacre Quarterly.  This article received the first-place award from the national Catholic Press Association for Best Scholarly Article of the year.  He and his wife, Beth, have five children.
