John Johnson is a graduate of the philosophy program at St. Mary’s College. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Theology from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, CA, where his Thesis focused on Passion and Beatific epistemology according to St. Thomas Aquinas. For over a decade he worked at the parish level in the Diocese of Sacramento as a Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry where he co-founded several thriving ministries. While moonlighting as a faculty member, he developed a deep affection for the students and charism of the Avila Institute and now serves as its Associate Director. He continues to teach courses in the School of Spiritual Formation including Intro to Moral Theology, Contemplative Prayer and the Beloved Disciple, and Contemplative Prayer and the Angelic Doctor. John has given talks at Catholic retreats and events across the country. He and his wife, Alexandria, have three children: Mary, Agnes, and John Jr.
